Rural King to Occupy Former Sears Space at the Nittany Mall

 

Rural King, a farm and home department store chain based in Illinois, has signed a lease agreement for the former Sears location at The Nittany Mall and looks to open this upcoming spring.

Nittany Mall General Manager Polly Welch said Rural King signed a long-term lease for the unoccupied 82,944 square feet of space. She said the store will also have seasonal outdoor displays outside of the mall.

Couple Hopes to Bring Back Crowbar Glory Days

Mick Dougher and Jennifer Stiffler can remember when State College’s Crowbar was the place to see live music in the region. Now, they hope to bring that feeling back by trying to restore the venue to its glory days as ReBar, and they plan to be ready to open in time for the fall semester.

Right now they are busy painting and trying to get the old feeling back to the 420 E. College Ave. venue that became The Cell Block after the Crowbar closed in 2006, followed by Mezzanine, then Levels Night Club and then ENVY Nightclub.

Lengthy Travel Delays Expected Again on North Atherton Street

A traffic pattern change for PennDOT’s North Atherton Street project is expected to cause long traffic delays on Monday.

Between Cherry Lane and Curtin Road, the current long-term closure on the far-right side of Atherton Street traveling toward the university will be removed and reinstalled on the left side.

“Expect lengthy delays on Monday, August 12 for the traffic control switch to take place due to line eradication and line painting operations taking time,” a PennDOT news release said.

‘Seats For Servicemembers’ Applications Set to Open Aug. 22

Penn State Athletics announced  that applications for its Seats for Service members program will open at noon on Thursday, Aug. 22. The popular program provides complimentary football tickets for current and former military members, veterans, and their families.

Eligible members can apply to receive tickets for Penn State’s game on Nov. 16 against Indiana. That day, the team will honor members of the armed forces during its annual military appreciation game.

Penn State Women’s Soccer Ranked No. 6 in Preseason Coaches Poll

Penn State women’s soccer will begin the 2019 season as a top-10 team according to the results of the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll.
The Nittany Lions are the top-ranked Big Ten team, with No. 16 Wisconsin as their closest conference rival in the top 25. They trail powerhouses like current national champion Florida State and the University of North Carolina, ranked first and second, respectively. No. 4 UCLA, who beat Penn State in a tightly contested 1-0 match last fall, and No. 3 Stanford, the first team on the Nittany Lion’s regular season schedule, round out the top four.
